Did you know…
Statistics show that 80% of the clutter in our homes is a result of disorganization and NOT from lack of SPACE.
But I’m here to tell ya – when you’re working with a SMALL closet, that lack of space sure makes a difference!
The trick to getting it all organized and functional is to make the most of the space we DO have to work with.
I’ve talked about how to declutter clothes before, but today, let’s just talk about 9 easy ways to organized your closet when you have limited space to worked with.
I’ve talked about **how to declutter clothes** before, but today, let’s just talk about 9 easy ways to organized your closet when you have limited space to worked with.
(1) Group Items By Type
Grouping clothing by type (or season) can make it easier to find what you’re looking for (especially when you’re in a rush!).
This strategy also makes it easier to put closet items AWAY since you have a system.
(2) Organize By Color
Organizing your closet by similiar colors makes it extrememly easy to find the exact clothing item you’re looking for.
Plus – it makes your closet LOOK awesome, too!
(3) Get Rid Of Unwanted Items
Statistics show we only wear 20% of the clothing items we own 80% of the time.
That means – out closets are FULL of items we barely ever (or NEVER) wear!
Take some time to get RID of those items that you don’t wear, that don’t fit – or you simply do not LIKE anymore.
(4) Make Use of Shelves
Take a look at your closet? See that space UNDER your hanging clothes?
Get some shelves in there!
Whether it’s shelves of some plastic drawers, you can almost DOUBLE your closet space by making use of the UNUSED space.
(5) Box Up Out Of Season Clothing
Get all your out-of-season clothing and store them in boxes, plastic totes or clothing storage cubes.
Put those boxes either on the shelf above your hanging clothes or somewhere else in your home.
Less unneeded stuff in your closet sure makes your closet a ton more functional.
(6) Label All Your Containers
If you store your smaller items in containers – make sure the containers are clear AND you label them so you can SEE what’s in there.
(7) Hang Bags and Purses
Head to a Dollar Store and grab some cheap over-the-door hooks to hang all your purses and bags.
I even hang my robe and light jackets on them too.
(8) Hang Your Shoes Too
While you’re at the Dollar Store, grab a cheap over-the-door or closet rod hanging shoe organizer.
They are WONDERFUL – especially for dress shoes and shoes you don’t wear often.
(9) Use Dividers For Socks and Under-Garments
If you DO get some drawers for your closet, be sure to use dividers to organize your socks and undergarments.
No need to buy fancy dividers, just grab some cardboard and cut to your needed size.
Can’t fit drawers?
Why not install some simple shelving to give all your clothes a space?
