WHY Does Clutter Give Me Anxiety?
I could probably write a novel on all the amazing reasons to clean the clutter in your home.
But it really comes to 6 main reasons – and all 6 reasons are WHY you feel anxiety over your messy house.
The benefits of a clean house are life-changing, but let’s talk about WHY you should clean the clutter in your home.
This is all about helping YOU get past the anxiety you feel over your messy house that is SO cluttered that you don’t know where to start.
It’s not about doing it for your kids, or spouse, or friends, or neighbors, or family… these are 6 reasons to clean the clutter for YOU.
So YOU feel better and have more joy – and less anxiety- in your life – and you feel less overwhelmed and suffocated when in your own home.
At the end of the day – your home, your choice.
But if you need some motivation to clean it up, let’s get started.
1. Clutter is Overwhelming You
I literally do not know ANYONE that is NOT overwhelmed by the clutter in their house.
Whether you want to admit it or not, clutter is overwhelming YOU, too.
Let me ask you a quick question –
When you go to a nice hotel and step in the neat, clutter-free hotel room…
How do you FEEL?
Don’t you feel calmer – like you can breathe?
I’m not saying your house has to be as minimal as a hotel room…
What you DO want is that feeling the hotel room gave you when you are in YOUR house.
If you clean the clutter, you could feel that same awesome feeling every, single day.
2. Clutter is Expensive
Every single piece of clutter and STUFF in your home represents money spent… or at least TIME spent… for that clutter to be in your home.
How many times have you RE-bought something because…
a – you forgot you already had said thing, or
b – you couldn’t FIND said thing you already bought?
Bottom line, clutter is costing you money – clean it out.
3. Clutter Causes Anxiety
NOTHING gives me more anxiety than knowing someone is coming to my house when it’s a cluttered mess.
Now, I am a PRO at faking a clean house in 30 minutes…. but that is only for those rare time that my house gets out of control (or my life is out of control – ha!)
So, WHY does the clutter in your home cause anxiety?
For one, excessive clutter in our homes makes us feel as if the walls are closing in with less room to breathe.
Yep, clutter is suffocating – and that causes anxious feelings and feelings of being totally out of control of your life.
And that feeling STINKS.
There’s also the next reason to clean the clutter – which also causes anxiety.
4. Clutter is Embarrassing
Yes, clutter is EMBARRASSING.
I know we’re not supposed to care what others think – but WE DO.
I can’t stand someone coming in my home when there’s so much clutter – I just know they think I’m a slob and that I don’t take care of my home (or my kids… or THEIR kids… or anything).
5. Clutter Makes Your Life HARDER
Everything is harder when your house is a cluttered mess.
E.V.E.R.Y.T.H.I.N.G.
Clutter makes it hard to find anything you need.
Clutter makes it extra hard to get ready in the mornings to get you AND the kids out the door.
Clutter makes it extra hard to clean your house properly.
In short, clutter makes your life harder than it needs to be – so it IS time to clean the clutter and get your house under control.
6. Clutter Limits Your Options in Life
All the clutter in your home limits your choices and options in life.
As an example, let me ask you this…
If someone offered you THREE MILLION DOLLARS for your home RIGHT NOW…
BUT – you had to be totally moved out and your house completely EMPTY in 48 hours.
Could you do it?
Now, 3 millions dollars is pretty extreme, but it sure made you think didn’t it?
My point is, clutter holds you back.
Whether you realize it or not, every single day you are making decisions and choices based on the clutter in your home.
Here’s a perfect example of clutter holding someone back that has happened in my life recently.
My friend, Kelly, is SO talented – like super crafty.
Kelly really, REALLY wanted to devote more time to her craft projects – and I encouraged her because she’s SUPER good at it.
In fact, I had NO doubt she could make great money SELLING her craft projects.
BUT, Kelly soon realized that she’d have to clean the clutter in SOME spot in her home to make room for her new (and exciting) crafting area.
Just thought was too overwhelming, so Kelly just put that idea to the side for another time when her house was cleaner… or she had more time… or she wasn’t so stressed, etc etc etc
I even offered to help her clean the clutter in ANY room in her house – but, if you read reason #4 – Kelly declined my help.
As of today, Kelly has not started doing something she’s not only super good at, but something she really, really wants to do.
All because clutter held her back from something that would bring her joy (and extra money)
So there’s the 6 BIGGEST reasons to clean out the clutter in your home.
To sum up:
If you clean out the clutter, it WILL improve your life.
